Indian Heritage Gets Official Recognition in Massachusetts

The US state of Massachusetts has officially proclaimed August 15, India's Independence Day, as 'India Day'. Governor Maura Healey announced the decision, stating that it recognizes the invaluable contributions of the Indian-American community to the state's growth and development. She also encouraged residents to take part in the celebrations marking the occasion.

In the official proclamation, Governor Healey described India as the world's largest democracy, known for its rich diversity of cultures, languages, religions, and traditions. She noted that despite this diversity, India's spirit of unity remains remarkable. Highlighting the global Indian diaspora, she said more than 36 million people of Indian origin live worldwide, including over five million in the United States. Their significant contributions across healthcare, science, technology, education, business, and public service have played an important role in strengthening American society.
