India-New Zealand Naval Ties Strengthen

India and New Zealand are set to expand their maritime and defence cooperation, with Indian Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan visiting New Zealand and holding discussions with Chief of the Royal New Zealand Navy Rear Admiral Garin Golding. The two naval chiefs discussed strengthening operational engagement, maritime information exchange, training and professional cooperation between the two navies.

The discussions also covered plans for the maiden bilateral naval exercise between India and New Zealand in 2027. During the visit, Admiral Swaminathan received a traditional Māori welcome at the naval base in Auckland, followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour by Royal New Zealand Navy personnel. The talks were held under the existing India-New Zealand Maritime Security Cooperation Arrangement, with both sides exploring ways to further strengthen practical naval cooperation.
