HRC Orders Report on SNCU Safety Measures at RIMS Adilabad

The Telangana Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the deaths of newborns following the fire incident at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad. The Commission has sought a detailed report on the electrical system, fire alarm system, firefighting equipment, emergency evacuation arrangements, maintenance and security measures at the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). Recent reports said the incident resulted in the deaths of several infants.

The Commission has also directed the Principal Secretary of the Telangana Health and Medical Department to submit a comprehensive report on the circumstances that led to the incident, safety arrangements at the hospital and the relief and rescue measures undertaken. The state government has separately ordered an inquiry and safety audits covering electrical, fire and structural systems at RIMS. The next hearing has reportedly been adjourned to October 27.
