The Himachal Pradesh High Court has dismissed a wife’s plea seeking ₹40,000 in monthly maintenance after the couple separated just six days after their marriage. Both the husband and wife were working as assistant professors and were found to have nearly similar financial standing. Justice Rakesh Kainthla observed that the wife had failed to establish her allegations of domestic violence and noted that the lower courts had also found her financially capable of supporting herself.
The High Court therefore rejected her revision petition and upheld the earlier decision denying maintenance. The ruling was delivered on September 3, 2026, in a case arising from the couple’s marriage in October 2023 and their subsequent separation. The court’s decision has drawn attention to the financial independence of both spouses while considering the maintenance claim.
