A Grameen Bank has issued a clarification regarding the viral incident from Odisha, stating that the claims circulating on social media are misleading. According to bank officials, an individual identified as Jeetu Monda allegedly created a disturbance at the branch while under the influence of alcohol, demanding access to his deceased sister’s account funds. The bank emphasized that such allegations portraying negligence are not accurate.
Officials further clarified that releasing funds without the account holder or valid documentation is against banking regulations. They stated that a death certificate is mandatory to process the settlement. Following the refusal, the individual reportedly exhumed his sister’s body and brought it to the bank premises, creating a tense situation. Police intervened promptly, shifting the body and restoring order.
