Flood Threat in Srikakulam.. Warning Issued for Nagavali and Vamsadhara Rivers

Flood levels in the Nagavali and Vamsadhara rivers are rising rapidly in Srikakulam district due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas and increased inflows from other water sources. District Collector Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar issued an emergency flood alert from the Collectorate and asked people living in low-lying and riverbank areas to remain highly vigilant.

The first flood warning was issued after the discharge at Narayanapuram Anicut reached 60,000 cusecs at 7:15 am on Friday. A similar first warning was also issued for the Vamsadhara River. Authorities have advised people not to enter the rivers for swimming, bathing, fishing or crossing. Residents have also been urged to follow only official government alerts, avoid rumours and immediately contact the local revenue or government authorities in case of an emergency.
