Five-Star Hotel Hygiene Under Scrutiny After Cockroach Incident

Prominent cardiologist and Fortis Healthcare chairman Dr Ashok Seth had an unexpected experience while dining at Romano’s restaurant at JW Marriott Mumbai Sahar. During dinner on Saturday night, he spotted a baby cockroach on his table. Dr Seth jokingly referred to the insect as “Roachie”, but said the sight affected his appetite and prompted him and his companions to leave without finishing their meal. He later highlighted the incident as a food hygiene concern.

The incident has sparked discussion about food safety and hygiene standards at luxury hotels. Dr Seth tagged Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and JW Marriott in his post. Marriott Bonvoy Assist responded to the complaint, apologising for the experience and saying that the matter would be looked into.
