Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have issued a warning over the growing trend of sharing 1980s-style retro photos on social media. Police have advised people to exercise caution while uploading personal photographs and not to download APK files or install unknown applications circulated in the name of the trending photo trend. Such apps could potentially gain access to photographs and other personal data stored on users’ devices, creating a risk of misuse.
Police also cautioned that photographs shared online could be manipulated using artificial intelligence to create fake images and videos. They warned that such morphed content could potentially be used to harass, threaten or blackmail individuals. Citizens have been urged to avoid uploading personal photos to unverified platforms and to remain vigilant while participating in viral social media trends.
