Court Gives Clean Chit to Brij Bhushan Singh

A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh and co-accused Vinod Tomar in the sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers. The Rouse Avenue Court ruled that the prosecution had failed to produce sufficient evidence and noted inconsistencies in the statements of the complainants, leading to the dismissal of the case.

The case stemmed from allegations made by women wrestlers who accused Singh of sexual harassment between 2016 and 2019, triggering nationwide protests at Jantar Mantar in 2023. Prominent wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia participated in the demonstrations. Singh had earlier been acquitted in the POCSO case after the minor complainant withdrew her allegations. With the latest verdict, the criminal proceedings against him have come to an end.
