A controversy has erupted regarding the ‘Lotus’ symbol amidst the ongoing polling in West Bengal. The BJP has alleged that in certain polling booths, the Lotus symbol on the voting machines was obscured—thereby preventing voters from casting their ballots. Party leaders specifically claimed that in the Falta constituency, located within the Diamond Harbour jurisdiction, the button corresponding to the symbol had been covered with tape.
Sharing videos related to these incidents on social media, the party alleged that leaders of rival parties were engaging in these actions with the collusion of local officials. They demanded that re-polling be conducted immediately in the affected booths.
The Election Commission has responded to these allegations. It stated that it is currently examining reports regarding alleged tampering with the buttons in polling booths. The Commission further announced that if the allegations are found to be true, re-polling will be conducted in the concerned booths. Officials also stated that security has been tightened across the state.
