Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday inaugurated the commercial gold production process at the Jonnagiri Gold Mine Project in Tuggali Mandal of Kurnool district. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the project's second unit. State ministers Kollu Ravindra, Nimmala Ramanaidu, and TG Bharat, along with other dignitaries, participated in the event.
GeoMysore Services India Private Limited and Deccan Gold Mines Limited have invested nearly ₹405 crore in the Jonnagiri project so far. Following the successful completion of trial production, the project has now entered the commercial production phase. This marks the first instance of private-sector gold mining and production in India. The company plans to produce two tonnes of gold annually, generating employment for around 700 people. The state government is expected to receive a 4% royalty on the value of gold produced, with an estimated revenue of ₹57 crore in the first year from the projected production of 400 kilograms of gold.
