Bank employees under the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) are set to observe a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30, 2026. The proposed strike is part of the unions’ wider programme of industrial action over several pending demands, including the implementation of a five-day banking week and issues related to the performance-linked incentive scheme. The UFBU had also observed a nationwide strike on September 11, while a continuous strike has been proposed from October 26 if the issues remain unresolved.
Ahead of the September 28–30 strike, State Bank of India (SBI) has issued an advisory asking customers to complete important banking transactions before the strike period. The bank has advised customers to use ATMs, cash deposit or withdrawal machines, customer service points and digital platforms such as internet banking, YONO, mobile banking and UPI for routine requirements. SBI has said it is making arrangements to maintain normal operations, but branch-level services could still be affected depending on employee participation.
