Story:
Ravuri Venkatesh, popularly known as RV (Arun Dev), lives in the city with his family. His father (Harshavardhan) is very strict and constantly pressures him to score good marks and secure the first rank. When RV fails to achieve the expected rank before the summer holidays, his father scolds him. To help him relax, his mother (Vasuki) takes him to his grandmother's village for the first time during the summer vacation.
There, RV meets Kashi Venkateswarlu, popularly known as KV (Rohan). Despite facing several hardships, KV remains cheerful, attends school and takes up small jobs to support himself. He dreams of buying his mother at least one saree with his own earnings. To fulfil this wish, he leases a few mango trees from Varma (Rajeev Kanakala) and cultivates them. How does KV become a part of RV's life? How does their friendship develop? What changes do they bring into each other's lives, and what challenges do they face? The film reveals these experiences.
Plus Points:
The performances of the lead actors are one of the film's major strengths. Scenes that bring back childhood memories and the entertaining moments in the first half appeal to the audience. The emotional sequences and the Godavari backdrop add a distinct flavour to the film.
Minus Points:
The slow-paced narration in the second half works against the film. A few sequences feel unnecessarily prolonged. Minor logical inconsistencies and the emotional track involving the grandmother's house, which does not deliver the expected impact, slightly affect the overall viewing experience.
Technical Aspects:
Sai Prakash's cinematography is good, with the mango orchards, village surroundings and school locations presented beautifully. Shinjith Yerramilli's songs are average, but the background score adds strength to several emotional sequences.
As a debutant director, Srikar Nayan handles the film reasonably well from a technical perspective. He attempts to balance entertainment, emotions and meaningful dialogues. However, tighter editing in the second half could have improved the film's pace. The production values are impressive.
Verdict:
Those expecting a complete entertainer based on the title Summer Holidays may be slightly disappointed. The film is an emotional story revolving around childhood memories, friendship, academic pressure and family responsibilities. While the entertainment in the first half and the actors' performances make an impression, the slow narration in the second half affects the overall experience. Nevertheless, it is a film that can be watched with family.
