Hyderabad Metro passengers are reportedly facing difficulties due to restrictions in the ticketing system. In one instance, a commuter travelling from LB Nagar to Lakdikapul wanted to exit at Nampally due to an emergency. However, the QR code on his paper ticket failed to open the exit gate, forcing him to approach the station controller. He was eventually allowed to leave after staff scanned a metro card. In another case, a passenger who booked a digital ticket through the app from JNTU to Begumpet tried to board at KPHB after being dropped off there by a friend. The entry gate did not open, leaving him unable to enter the station with the ticket.
Passengers say these restrictions are creating unnecessary inconvenience, particularly during peak hours. According to metro staff, the boarding and destination stations are encoded in each ticket, so the system does not recognise scans made at different stations. If a passenger travels beyond the destination mentioned on the ticket, the exit gate remains locked until the additional fare is paid and the station controller permits exit. While commuters understand the need to collect extra fares for longer journeys, they question why passengers should face restrictions when exiting before their selected destination or boarding at an intermediate station. The problem is also affecting people who book digital tickets for friends and family members, as the ticket may not work if they board at a different station. Passengers are seeking greater flexibility in the ticketing system to avoid delays and dependence on station staff.
