Actor Sayaji Shinde is widely recognized for his powerful performances in Telugu films such as Tagore, Athadu, Pokiri, Arundhati, and Dubai Seenu. Having begun his career in Marathi theatre, he later earned popularity across multiple film industries. Known for his commanding voice and impactful screen presence, Sayaji became one of the most respected character actors in Indian cinema.
However, his contribution extends far beyond films. In 2016, when Maharashtra faced a severe drought, Sayaji decided to dedicate himself to environmental conservation. Inspired by the traditional concept of sacred forests, he launched the "Sahyadri Devarai" movement. He invested nearly ₹1 lakh to transport saplings and began a large scale tree plantation drive in memory of his mother. His family's land had earlier been acquired by the government in 1978 for a dam project, while the promised alternative land reportedly took 35 years to be allotted.
Today, Sayaji Shinde is leading tree plantation activities in 48 locations across Maharashtra. His environmental campaign has resulted in the planting of around 6.5 lakh saplings. He promotes the cultivation of banyan, neem, peepal, mango, jamun, and tamarind trees to strengthen ecosystems and groundwater resources. From a celebrated actor to a dedicated environmental activist, Sayaji Shinde has become an inspiring example of social responsibility and ecological commitment.
