Food delivery platform Zomato has introduced an additional ₹5 charge on cash on delivery orders. The new fee is already appearing in customers’ bill summaries. The move is reportedly aimed at improving revenue and encouraging users to shift towards digital payments. The company already charges platform fees, restaurant packaging charges and GST on food orders, making the new COD fee an additional cost for customers. Those who pay online will not have to pay the COD charge.
Zomato recently increased its platform fee from ₹12.50 to ₹14.90 per order. Meanwhile, competition in the food delivery market is intensifying, with Rapido and Flipkart experimenting with their own food delivery services. The growing competition is putting pressure on Zomato and Swiggy, while Zomato is reportedly looking at additional charges to improve profitability.
