Tesla, owned by global billionaire Elon Musk, has taken a significant step toward expanding its presence in the Indian market. On Wednesday, the company launched its first full-fledged retail experience center in Gurugram, located inside Orchid Business Park.
Unlike the smaller display-oriented Tesla spaces at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex and Delhi’s Aerocity, this new center is designed as a comprehensive retail hub where customers can explore Tesla models, book vehicles, and schedule test drives. The company described this as the first major step toward building a structured retail network in India.
The Gurugram facility will be headed by Sharad Agarwal, who joined Tesla in November. Agarwal previously served as Lamborghini India Head and also held senior positions at Audi India. His appointment reflects Tesla’s strategy to strengthen its premium EV brand presence nationwide.
Tesla officially entered the Indian market earlier this year, launching two imported Model Y variants priced at ₹59.89 lakh and ₹67.89 lakh. However, sales have been modest so far — according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA), Tesla sold just 104 units combined in September and October.
As of now, Tesla does not have plans for local manufacturing in India. The government confirmed that the company will currently focus only on importing cars and expanding showroom operations.
Globally, Tesla continues to dominate the EV market. In the September 2025 quarter alone, the company delivered 4.97 lakh vehicles worldwide, highlighting the strong global demand for its electric cars.
