Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have continued to favour selling in Indian equities over the past few months. The trend seen in 2025 has continued into 2026, pushing their holding in NSE-listed companies down to 15.1% by the end of the April-June quarter. This is the lowest level in 17 years. By the end of June 2026, FPIs had withdrawn a net ₹2,30,752 crore from Indian equities.
Domestic investors, however, have continued to strengthen their presence in the market. Domestic mutual funds increased their share for the 12th consecutive quarter, reaching 11.6% by June, a new record. The share of Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) in NSE-listed companies also rose to 19.5%. As a result, DIIs maintained a higher share than FPIs for the seventh consecutive quarter.
