OpenAI has launched its Codex app for Windows devices, a month after introducing it for macOS. The San Francisco-based ఏఐ company announced that the app is now available through the Microsoft Store, allowing Windows developers to use it for agent-based coding. At launch, the platform includes existing features such as skills and the ability to run multiple ఏఐ agents simultaneously across projects.
The company shared the update on X, stating that Windows users can now enjoy the full Codex experience with a native agent sandbox and support for Windows developer environments in PowerShell. The Codex app acts as a central hub for agent-driven software development, enabling developers to manage complex coding tasks, review code changes, and work across multiple projects without using workarounds like virtual machines or Windows Subsystem for Linux.
Originally unveiled by OpenAI in April 2025, OpenAI Codex is a cloud-based software engineering agent powered by advanced language models designed for coding. It can convert natural language prompts into code, suggest pull requests, fix bugs, and generate tests. The technology also powers tools like GitHub Copilot and supports programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and Go. While free and Go tier users can access basic features, premium plans like Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu offer higher usage limits and advanced capabilities.
