OpenAI has announced a major multi-year strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), just hours after updating its agreement with Microsoft. Under the new deal, Amazon will invest up to $50 billion in OpenAI, starting with an initial $15 billion, followed by $35 billion based on undisclosed conditions.
The partnership will make OpenAI’s latest frontier AI models available to AWS customers and expand access through Amazon Bedrock. Both companies will also collaborate to build new AI solutions, including a stateful runtime environment designed to improve how AI models use computing power, memory, and data integration.
Additionally, AWS will become the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI’s frontier systems. OpenAI is also expanding its compute agreement with Amazon by an additional $100 billion over eight years, including large-scale use of Trainium chips to power future AI infrastructure.
