NotebookLM has updated its mobile app on Android and iOS with an in-built camera, allowing users to add images as sources. Now, users can upload handwritten notes, photos of whiteboard explanations, or printed documents and ask the AI to summarise or generate questions from them. A new floating action button (FAB) activates the camera, and images can also be selected directly from the gallery. Previously, the app supported text, PDFs, audio, video (if transcribed), websites, and documents, but this update makes digitising analogue content easier.
The camera feature was first spotted by 9 to 5 Google and appears to be rolling out globally, though Google has not officially announced it yet. NotebookLM also recently added the Nano Banana Pro feature, which generates images for the Video Overviews tool. These images are incorporated by the AI while summarising sources, and the feature is currently available for users with Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscriptions.
