Google Labs’ experiment, Opal, has gained popularity since its July release. It allows users to create AI-powered mini apps based on prompts. Google is now integrating Opal into Gemini’s website interface, enabling users to generate and use mini apps directly within the chatbot. Any mini apps created will be saved as a new Gem for repeated use.
Opal was initially released in a US-exclusive public beta, later expanding to 15 countries in October and over 160 countries in November. Users can access it via the Gemini website by opening the Gems menu in the sidebar.
Google has also upgraded Opal’s visual editor, showing prompts as a step-by-step workflow. Users can pause and edit steps for precise control or switch to the Advanced Editor for more customization options.
