

India enjoyed another successful day at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, taking its overall medal tally to 11 with outstanding performances across weightlifting and athletics. Andhra Pradesh weightlifter Valluri Ajay Babu secured a silver medal in the men's 79kg category with a total lift of 330kg, narrowly missing the gold by just one kilogram. In para athletics, Sharmila Dhankhad created history by becoming the first Indian para athlete to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal, clinching the women's F57 shot put title with a best throw of 9.81m. India also celebrated a bronze in the same event through Shilpa Shaila, while Harjinder Kaur added another silver in the women's 69kg weightlifting event.
High jumper Sarvesh Kushare scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games silver medal in men's high jump, clearing 2.25m before losing the gold on countback. His inspiring journey from training in a makeshift high jump facility built by his father on their farm to standing on the Commonwealth podium has won widespread admiration. Meanwhile, swimmer Sajan Prakash finished eighth in the men's 200m butterfly final, Aryan Nehra placed eighth in the 800m freestyle, and Srihari Nataraj advanced to the semifinals of the men's 100m backstroke. Hurdler Tejas Shirse displayed remarkable determination by completing the 110m hurdles final despite suffering an injury during the warm-up.
