After a tense loss to England, the Indian women’s cricket team still has a narrow chance to qualify for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 semifinals. With only a few matches left in the group stage, Harmanpreet Kaur and her side will need to win convincingly and hope other results go their way to keep their campaign alive.
At present, India have four points from five matches with a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.526. They are currently tied with New Zealand, who also have four points but a lower NRR.
This gives India a slight edge going into their remaining fixtures against New Zealand and Bangladesh.
The equation is straightforward — India must win both matches to qualify comfortably for the semifinals. If they win just one, their fate will depend on the performance of New Zealand and Bangladesh, and possibly the NRR calculations. Losing to New Zealand would make things even tougher, leaving India dependent on other teams’ outcomes.
Cricket analysts believe that India’s NRR advantage could become crucial in a close race.
The team’s recent performances have shown flashes of brilliance, especially from Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma, but they’ll need consistent batting and disciplined bowling in their final matches.
With Australia, England, and South Africa already sealing their semifinal spots, only one slot remains open. If India can deliver strong back-to-back wins, they can still claim that final berth and keep their World Cup dream alive.
