The International Cricket Council is taking significant steps toward reviving the prestigious India–Pakistan Test series. The matter is expected to be a key topic during the ICC Board meeting scheduled to be held in Ahmedabad on the 30th and 31st of this month. Prior to this, a virtual meeting of the Chief Executives Committee will take place on the 21st to deliberate on the proposal. These developments have reignited excitement among cricket fans worldwide.
As part of efforts to restore the glory of Test cricket, the ICC is considering expanding the World Test Championship from nine to twelve teams, which could open doors for nations like Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Afghanistan. If approved, this plan could pave the way for future India–Pakistan Test series, which have not been played since the 2007–08 season due to political tensions. Additionally, the ICC is exploring the possibility of introducing single-match Test series to reduce travel costs for smaller boards, although the proposal has sparked mixed reactions among experts.
