Ravichandran Ashwin has spoken out strongly about the importance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Indian cricket, urging the management and coach Gautam Gambhir to show support and trust in the senior duo. Despite their unmatched achievements, both players face uncertainty about their future in India’s ODI setup, with the 2027 World Cup plans seemingly focused on younger players.
Ashwin highlighted that Kohli and Rohit’s presence still holds immense value — not only for their experience but also for the inspiration and popularity they bring to the game. He pointed out that their return to the ODI squad has reignited fan interest and that Indian cricket must provide them with space, communication, and respect to perform freely. “In white-ball cricket, they have been champions. They deserve support and the right environment,” Ashwin said on his show Ash Ki Baat.
He also reminded the management that both players can still play a vital role in guiding the next generation. “Don’t let them feel pressure. Let them enjoy the game,” Ashwin stated, adding that Kohli has already achieved everything while Rohit still eyes a 50-over World Cup win. India now prepares to face Australia in the must-win second ODI at Adelaide Oval, where fans hope to see the senior stars lead from the front once again.
