YSRCP mayor candidate and MLC Varudu Kalyani has thanked everyone who worked for her victory and supported the party in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) mayor election. In a statement, she said YSRCP leaders and workers fought courageously despite facing the combined strength of the ruling alliance, its money power and political influence. She expressed gratitude to party leaders, constituency coordinators and cadres who worked tirelessly from the day she was announced as the mayoral candidate until the counting process. Kalyani also acknowledged the support and affection extended by citizens, employees, retired employees, contract workers and party supporters during the campaign. Although the party could not secure victory, she said it had earned a special place in the hearts of Visakhapatnam residents. She thanked the approximately 3.40 lakh voters who placed their trust in the YSRCP.
Kalyani said she would continue to remain among the people in her roles as an MLC and president of the YSRCP women's wing, irrespective of electoral victories or defeats. She pledged to fight for public issues and people's rights, particularly those of women, and said she would continue to question the government over atrocities and injustices against women. Calling on party workers to begin preparations immediately, she said the goal was to hoist the YSRCP flag in Visakhapatnam in the 2029 elections. She also congratulated alliance candidate Mukka Sravani on becoming the new GVMC Mayor and urged her to fulfil all the promises made to voters. Kalyani specifically called for the recovery of the alleged diversion of Rs. 1,700 crore in GVMC funds, which she described as the hard earned money of Visakhapatnam residents, and urged the new municipal administration to use its authority to bring the funds back to the corporation and improve the city’s infrastructure.
