US President Donald Trump has once again made sensational claims about the India and Pakistan tensions that arose in May. Speaking at the Saudi Investment Forum in New York, Trump said that he personally intervened to stop the situation from escalating into a nuclear war. He added that if he hadn’t stepped in, the impact would have reached as far as Los Angeles a remark that has now become a topic of discussion.
According to Trump’s version, when the situation between India and Pakistan became extremely tense, he warned both countries that the US would impose heavy tariffs and halt all trade if the conflict continued. He claimed that it was this pressure that forced both nations to back off, saving millions of lives.
Trump further stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi called him to inform that India had decided not to go to war, and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also thanked him. Trump described himself as the only US President capable of handling such crises.
However, the actual sequence of events tells a different story. After a terror attack in Pahalgam in April, India carried out Operation Sindhoor targeting terrorist bases across the Line of Control on May 7. Later, on May 10, military officials from both sides held discussions and agreed to a ceasefire a decision made entirely between the two nations.
India has repeatedly rejected Trump’s claims, stating that no mediation was sought and that both countries resolved the issue independently. Yet Trump continues to repeat his nuclear war prevention narrative for political mileage.
