“Our Government Is Democratic”: Sridhar Babu

Telangana Minister D Sridhar Babu said the state government conducted the Assembly proceedings in a democratic manner and provided members with opportunities to participate in discussions on development and welfare programmes. Speaking at the CLP media point, he said the eight-day session functioned for 51 hours and 52 minutes, with members raising questions and discussing various issues. According to the figures cited by him, 50 questions received answers, 86 members asked supplementary questions and 105 members spoke on different subjects. He also highlighted ministerial statements, short-duration discussions and the passage of several bills. The Assembly was adjourned sine die on September 18 after completing its scheduled business.

Sridhar Babu also criticised the main opposition BRS over disruptions during the session. He alleged that BRS members violated Assembly rules by raising slogans and entering the Well of the House despite appeals from the Speaker. Twenty-two BRS MLAs were suspended for the remainder of the session following repeated disruptions, while two BRS MLCs were also suspended from the Legislative Council over remarks against the Speaker. Sridhar Babu said the government had discussed the 22-A land issue in the House and that further decisions would be taken after examination by a high-power official committee. He also said the government expected former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao to attend the Assembly and offer suggestions based on his experience.
