Telangana Rakshana Sena president Kalvakuntla Kavitha said the state government had finally agreed to set up a separate commission for Scheduled Tribes (STs) following repeated demands made by her. In a post on X on Friday, she said that after the formation of Telangana, Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes were brought under a single commission. As a result, she argued, neither community received adequate attention and justice. Kavitha said she had repeatedly raised concerns over the need for separate commissions to address the issues faced by both communities.
She pointed out that Scheduled Castes continue to face social oppression, discrimination and atrocities, while Adivasi communities are allegedly being pushed away from forests under various pretexts. She expressed concern that tribal people are at risk of losing their traditional rights over Jal, Jangal and Zameen (water, forest and land), which are central to their identity and livelihood. Kavitha said the decision to establish a separate ST Commission would help address the concerns of Adivasis and tribal communities and support their overall development.
