Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticised the Centre’s announcement that voter ID cards would be used instead of Aadhaar to identify beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. Reacting to the statement made by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Rahul alleged that the move was part of a conspiracy and described it as not just “vote theft” but also a theft of citizens’ rights. He questioned the Centre’s decision to use voter identity cards in place of Aadhaar for identifying welfare scheme beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi hosted a tea gathering for party leaders at his residence on Friday on the occasion of Diwali. Discussions were held on the strategy to be adopted against what the Congress calls “vote theft”. Rahul also once again challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold an open discussion on the issue of SIR. He urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure that the Prime Minister agrees to the debate without creating confusion. In a post on X in Hindi, Rahul said he was ready to debate anywhere and anytime, adding, “Daro mat” (Don’t be afraid).
