The number of postgraduate (PG) medical seats in government and private medical colleges across Telangana has increased, with the additional seats set to be available from the current academic year. The National Medical Commission (NMC) informed the state government on Friday that it had approved 359 additional PG seats in government medical colleges and eight seats at NIMS. With this approval, the total number of PG seats in government medical colleges has risen to 1,731. The state government had applied to the NMC for 420 additional PG seats across 26 medical colleges this year, but the commission approved 359 of them.
Medical sources said the remaining 61 seats could also be approved if the state government submits an affidavit assuring the provision of the required infrastructure. Meanwhile, Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences has begun the PG medical admissions counselling process. Around 350 additional PG seats have also been approved in private medical colleges, taking their total to 2,229. In deemed universities, another 50 seats have reportedly been added to the existing 300. With these additions, the total number of PG medical seats across Telangana has increased to 4,310.
