Amid ongoing efforts to ease tensions in West Asia, fresh statements from Iran and the United States have once again brought the Strait of Hormuz into focus. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Iran remains responsible for managing the strategic waterway and asserted that the Strait of Hormuz will never return to its pre-war status. He emphasized that Iran has never trusted the United States and sees no reason to change that position in the future.
Ghalibaf also revealed that discussions between Iran and the United States had taken place in Switzerland and claimed that a final agreement had been reached regarding the release of approximately $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump offered a different perspective, stating that the Strait of Hormuz remains fully open. Oman, which borders the waterway, reiterated its commitment to international law and unhindered maritime navigation while confirming that constructive discussions had taken place regarding the latest understanding between Washington and Tehran.
