Action Against Students.. All Eyes on Amit Shah!

Action Against Students.. All Eyes on Amit Shah!

The controversy over police action against students has now moved beyond the education sector and into the domain of the Home Ministry. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah over who authorised the alleged use of pellet guns against students. However, without verified evidence that Amit Shah personally issued such instructions, the allegation should not be presented as an established fact. At the same time, questions remain over why the police resorted to such force, who took the decision, how serious the situation was and whether established procedures were followed. Observers argue that if the government is confident that no wrongdoing occurred, an independent inquiry could help establish the facts and present them transparently before the public.

Meanwhile, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks that young people should be understood through dialogue rather than orders have also drawn attention. His comments, however, cannot be interpreted as direct support for Rahul Gandhi. Amit Shah has also written to the Speaker expressing his readiness to answer opposition questions in Parliament. The developments have renewed the debate over whether student protests should be addressed through force or dialogue and meaningful solutions. The government’s next steps could prove crucial in rebuilding trust among young people.
