Madras High Court Directs CM Vijay to File Counter Affidavit

The Madras High Court has issued key directions to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay in connection with petitions challenging his election victory. The court directed that the proposed interim petitions seeking dismissal of the election petitions at the preliminary stage must be filed by August 25. DMK candidate R.D. Shekhar and voters Dinesh and Lakshmi Narasimhan had challenged Vijay’s election from the Perambur constituency in Chennai. A similar petition was also filed by DMK candidate Inigo Irudayaraj concerning the Tiruchirappalli East constituency.

The High Court had earlier directed Vijay to file counter affidavits in the cases. During the latest hearing before Justice V. Lakshminarayanan, Vijay’s lawyers sought four weeks to file separate petitions seeking dismissal of the election challenges. The judge declined to grant the requested period and directed them to file the petitions by August 25, adjourning the matter to the same date. The election petition challenging Tamil Nadu Minister Aadhav Arjuna’s victory was also posted for hearing on August 25.
