Himanta Biswa Sarma has been unanimously elected as the leader of the NDA Legislature Party in Assam and is set to take oath as the Chief Minister for a second consecutive term. Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony as the chief guest.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to be held on May 12 and will be attended by several Union Ministers, Chief Ministers, and Deputy Chief Ministers from BJP-ruled states. Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota stated that preparations for the event are being closely reviewed.
He said detailed discussions were held with officials regarding security arrangements, traffic management, and venue-related preparations. Ensuring the smooth conduct of the programme without any disruptions and strict adherence to the prescribed protocols is of utmost importance, he noted. The Chief Secretary also directed all concerned departments to remain fully prepared at the highest level.
In the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections, the NDA alliance secured a massive victory by winning 102 out of 126 seats, achieving a two-thirds majority. This also marks the first time the BJP has secured a clear majority on its own in the state.
