Mandaadi Producer Hits an Unexpected Jackpot!

Mandaadi, starring Tamil actor Soori and Telugu actor Suhas, is reportedly enjoying a strong run at the box office. Made on a reported budget of around Rs.45 crore, the film initially faced an unusual situation with its digital rights. Netflix was reportedly willing to offer around Rs.15 crore as an outright deal, while producer Elred Kumar sought a higher amount. The streaming giant instead proposed a performance-based agreement linked to the film’s theatrical collections.

Under the reported deal, the digital payout would increase if the film crossed specified theatrical collection benchmarks, while a lower amount would be paid if it failed to reach them. Confident in the film’s content, Soori’s performance, Suhas’s negative-shaded role and its technical values, Elred Kumar accepted the challenge. The film went on to receive strong word of mouth and impressive theatrical collections, reportedly triggering a payout of around Rs.40 crore from Netflix. With digital rights revenue and theatrical share reportedly covering the investment, the producer is now expected to benefit further from upcoming theatrical and satellite revenues.
