The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is planning measures to make the purchase of Srivari laddu more convenient for devotees visiting Tirumala. As part of this initiative, UPI payment facilities are proposed to be introduced at every laddu sale counter. With laddu sales increasing significantly every year, devotees currently rely mainly on cash payments at counters. To modernise the process, TTD had earlier introduced kiosk machines at the laddu sale centre behind the temple, allowing devotees to select the required number of laddus and make payments digitally.
However, increased crowding at kiosks, technical glitches, and the need to stand again in queue at counters after payment have prompted TTD to rethink the system. Officials are now considering installing QR code boards for UPI payments directly at each laddu counter, enabling devotees to make payments and collect laddus at the same point. A bank has reportedly come forward to support the service. The facility is likely to be implemented on a pilot basis at select counters initially, with a decision to expand it across all counters based on the response.
