The world's longest tunnel opened in China

China has inaugurated the world’s longest expressway tunnel, named the Tianshan Shengli Tunnel, marking a major milestone in infrastructure development. Stretching 22.13 kilometers, the tunnel passes through the central Tianshan mountain range in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of northwest China.

Previously, crossing this mountainous terrain took several hours. With the opening of the tunnel, travel time has now been reduced to just 20 minutes, significantly improving connectivity.

The tunnel is a crucial section of the 324.7-kilometer-long G0711 Urumqi–Yuli Expressway. Authorities believe the project will boost regional transportation efficiency and support economic growth in the area.
