Telangana has emerged as a leading force in paddy cultivation in the country, registering remarkable growth over the past decade. According to recent data, Telangana produced 168.8 lakh tonnes of rice, while Andhra Pradesh recorded production of only 73.4 lakh tonnes. With paddy output increasing nearly fivefold in ten years, Telangana has established itself as one of India’s major grain-producing states.
In contrast, agriculture continues to play a larger role in Andhra Pradesh’s economy. While agriculture accounts for about 16 percent of Telangana’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), it contributes over 30 percent to Andhra Pradesh’s GSDP and provides employment to more than 50 percent of its workforce. These figures highlight the structural differences in agricultural dependency and economic composition between the two states.
