Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy stated that electricity generation and consumption remain the true currency of any economy and serve as key indicators of development. Addressing the Climate Week summit in Mumbai, he announced the government’s vision to transform Telangana’s economy from the current $200 billion to a trillion-dollar economy by 2034 and further expand it to $3 trillion by 2047. He emphasised that Hyderabad Metropolitan Region will be developed into a net-zero city by 2034, with a strong focus on green energy and sustainable urban growth. The government plans to phase out industries from the Core Urban Region (CUR) over the next five years while promoting environmentally responsible development models.
Highlighting long-term development strategy, the Chief Minister explained that Telangana has been divided into CUR, PUR, and RUR zones to balance urban growth, manufacturing expansion, and environmental sustainability. Areas between the Outer Ring Road and the proposed Regional Ring Road will be developed as a major manufacturing hub powered largely by green energy, aiming to position Telangana as an alternative global production destination. With electricity demand expected to rise to 34,000 MW by 2034, the state is accelerating renewable energy adoption, expanding electric mobility, introducing over 3,500 electric buses, retrofitting auto-rickshaws, and extending Hyderabad Metro Rail beyond 200 km. Environmental initiatives such as Musi River rejuvenation, lake conservation, and carbon footprint audits are also part of the sustainability roadmap.
