Telangana has emerged at the top nationwide in Maoist surrenders this year, with a total of 509 Maoists laying down arms between January and December, according to police records. Of the remaining cadres, 54 are believed to be from Telangana, while only 21 are officially listed in police records. These include five members from the Central Committee, eight from the State Committee, and eight others holding various ranks. Officials say that if these remaining Maoists surrender, Telangana would be declared a Maoist-free state.
Madhya Pradesh has already declared itself Maoist-free ahead of the target set under Operation Kagar, with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav making the announcement earlier. Following the Madhya Pradesh model, Telangana is intensifying efforts to encourage the remaining Maoists to surrender. Police sources indicate that several Maoists are already in line to give up arms, raising hopes that the state may soon achieve Maoist-free status.
