Damodar Rajanarasimha has announced a series of key decisions, giving top priority to research and academic standards in the medical education sector. He directed officials to take immediate steps to increase PG and super-specialty seats in government medical colleges and mandated that MCMC committees submit monthly performance reports on medical colleges. To support students from rural backgrounds, the minister ordered spoken English training, including dedicated English classes for MBBS first- and second-year students, along with the appointment of special teachers.
The minister also ordered strict monitoring of additional fee collections in private colleges under the guise of hostel and mess charges for convener quota students. A special committee has been constituted to study students’ financial difficulties and the functioning of private college managements. To prevent student suicides, he instructed colleges to set up counseling centers with psychologists and psychiatrists. In view of the growing number of colleges, he approved staff strengthening of the examination wing at Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, called for complete digitalization of university operations, and directed the establishment of digital classrooms, libraries, and skill labs in all government medical colleges.
