Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.P Sajjanar announced that intensified checks are being carried out across 120 locations under the Hyderabad Commissionerate with the deployment of seven additional platoons. He made it clear that driving under the influence of alcohol beyond permissible limits will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The Commissioner warned that offenders caught during inspections will face strict action, including seizure of vehicles, a fine of ₹10,000, and up to six months of imprisonment. Depending on the severity of the offence, police will also recommend permanent cancellation of the driving licence to the transport department.
On Wednesday midnight, Commissioner Sajjanar personally supervised drunken driving checks near the TG Study Circle at Banjara Hills. He reviewed the inspection process, guided the staff on effective enforcement, and interacted with offenders, explaining the dangers of drunk driving. The measures, he said, are part of strengthened security arrangements to prevent any untoward incidents in the city during New Year celebrations.
