Hyderabad police have stepped up enforcement against the sale and use of banned Chinese manja across the city. With the Sankranti festival approaching, special drives are being conducted to prevent accidents caused by this hazardous thread.
Between January 8 and 11 alone, police seized 2,150 manja reels worth approximately ₹43 lakh. In connection with these seizures, 29 cases were registered and 57 individuals were arrested.
Over the past one month, authorities have booked a total of 132 cases, confiscating 8,376 reels valued at ₹1.68 crore and arresting nearly 200 people.
Police officials have warned that Chinese manja poses a serious threat to the environment, birds, and human lives. They reiterated that selling or purchasing the banned manja will attract strict legal action, including imprisonment.
Citizens are urged to use only safe kite strings and celebrate the Sankranti festival responsibly, ensuring safety for all.
