The Andhra Pradesh government is seriously considering imposing a ban on social media usage for children below the age of 16. In this regard, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed the police department to conduct a comprehensive study. Keeping in view the psychological and social impact of social media on children, as well as the rising instances of misuse, the government has initiated efforts to move forward with this proposal.
The Chief Minister emphasized the urgent need to curb the growing indiscipline and unchecked behavior on social media platforms. He instructed the police not to show any leniency in cases involving character assassination of children and youth. Strict action has been ordered against anyone indulging in abusive language, defamatory content or harassment through online platforms.
Chandrababu Naidu further stated that if the existing legal framework proves insufficient, the government is prepared to introduce a special law to address the issue. He highlighted that safeguarding the future generations and protecting their mental well-being requires clear and effective regulations on social media usage, and the government is committed to enforcing them in the interest of public welfare.
