Amid the ongoing H-1B visa processing, the United States government has taken another significant step by temporarily cancelling a large number of H-1B and H-4 visas as a precautionary measure. Reports indicate that affected visa holders have received emails from US consulates informing them of a “prudential revocation” of their work visas. This development comes at a time when authorities have begun closer scrutiny of applications, including the review of applicants’ online and background details during the processing phase.
Immigration attorney Emily Neimen clarified that this prudential visa revocation is temporary in nature and does not amount to a permanent rejection. She stated that while the cancellation does not impact the legal stay of visa holders in the US, it may result in stricter examination during future visa appointments.
Officials explained that such temporary cancellations are initiated when there are concerns regarding eligibility during visa processing. Although affected individuals can remain in the US until their authorised stay expires, they will not be allowed to re-enter the country if they travel abroad during this period, even if the visa validity remains. Meanwhile, applicants for H-1B, H-4, F, M, and J visas have been advised to keep their social media profiles public as part of the ongoing review process, which has already led to delays in several visa interviews.
