

The central government has unexpectedly appointed new governors for nine states. These changes came in the wake of the resignation of West Bengal Governor C.V. Anandabose. As part of this, Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Verma was transferred to Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh Governor Shivpratap Shukla was appointed as the Governor of Telangana in his place. Jishnu Dev Verma, who took charge as the Governor of Telangana on July 31, 2024, will now go to Maharashtra. Out of the appointments of Governors and Lieutenant Governors in all nine states and union territories, five were transferred from one state to another, one was given additional responsibilities and three were newly appointed.
Born on April 1, 1952 in Rudrapur village of Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh, Shivpratap Shukla is a leader with a long experience in politics. He also served as the Union Minister of State for Finance in the Modi government. After graduating in law, he worked for the ABVP organization while still a student and joined the BJP in 1983. He was first elected as an MLA from Gorakhpur in 1989 and later won several times. After serving as a minister in various governments in Uttar Pradesh, he was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2016. Later, he took charge as the Union Minister of State for Finance in 2017 and was appointed as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh in 2023. Now he will take charge as the Governor of Telangana.
