Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for a three-day trip to South Africa. He plans to attend the 20th G20 Leaders' Summit, which is set for November 21–23. On Friday morning, November 21, Prime Minister Modi departed and is expected to reach Johannesburg, South Africa. The G20 Leaders' Summit is being held in South Africa this year. Interestingly, this G20 summit is being held on the African continent for the first time. Additionally, the G20 is being held in the Global South for the fourth time in a row.
President Cyril Ramaphosa invited Prime Minister Modi to South Africa, and he stated that the summit is very important in a lot of ways. He recalled that the African Union was given permanent membership in the G20 during India's 2023 G20 presidency. "This historic step is further strengthened by hosting the summit in Africa," he said. "Unity, Equality, Sustainability" is the theme of this year's G20 Summit. The theme expands upon the continuity of the earlier summits in Brazil and India. During the summit discussions, PM Modi promised to emphasize India's "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - One Earth, One Family, One Future" philosophy.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend the sixth IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) Summit. The three nations' strategic cooperation, global issues, economic cooperation, and developmental priorities will be the main topics of discussion. PM Modi went on to say that he is excited to meet the sizable Indian-origin community in South Africa, one of the largest Indian diasporas in the world.
