GITAM University has suffered a major setback from the Telangana High Court. Following the High Court's orders regarding outstanding electricity bills, authorities have disconnected the power supply to GITAM University in Hyderabad. The university management approached the court again, stating that approximately 8,000 students are facing difficulties due to this.
The bench, which heard the matter, issued clear directives. The court stated unequivocally that it would only order the restoration of the power connection if at least half of the total Rs. 118 crore in outstanding electricity dues is paid. It clarified that restoring the power supply without paying the dues is not possible.
The court adjourned the next hearing in this case to the 24th of this month. It is known that DISCOM officials recently issued notices to GITAM University demanding payment of Rs. 118 crore in outstanding electricity bills. With the court's latest orders, the financial pressure on the university management appears to have increased further.
